This book is invaluable if you want to really learn about the workings under the shell of turtles in general. Specific examples include Leatherbacks, Box turtles, Softshelled turtles, Snapping and Red Eared Sliders. The first 2 chapters deal with the shell, the next one deals with the limbs, the next with the neck and so on…

This may not be for the casual turtle lover, but if you have any interest in turtle anatomy, physiology, ecology, biomechanics, or evolution you can’t do better than to start here. This is an incredible resource if you are planning to study or learn about turtles more in depth. If you are planning to do research on our wonderful friends the turtles, I totally recommend you get this text.
