Colic is a major killer of horses, and just as importantly, a major issue for welfare of the horse due to the suffering of many horses who go through bouts of colic, sometimes without the knowledge of their owners or caretakers. Colic pain in the horse has few equals in the human, and the worst aspect is that by far the majority of colics in horses are management-related (i.e., we cause this suffering). This should be mandatory reading for a horse owner in order to prevent this extremely painful and often fatal syndrome in our horses
